Abstrak

In learning mathematics, the teacher places more emphasis on understanding mathematical concepts when solving math problems in class. Culture is an alternative in learning mathematics so that students better understand mathematics related to their environment. Culture that is integrated with mathematics learning is called ethnomathematics. To be able to understand mathematical concepts, ethnomathematics has an important role. With ethnomathematics students are invited to contextually learn something that is around them so that students will more easily interpret the subject matter given. The concept of geometry in historical buildings such as Maimun Palace which is located in the city of Medan can be a cultural object for students in learning mathematics. The Maimun Palace which is a relic of the Deli Sultanate which was built 125 years ago, to be precise on August 26, 1888. The purpose of this study is to explore the geometric shapes found in the Maimun Palace so that the results of this exploration can be used as a source of student learning. The type of research used is qualitative research with data collection techniques with the methods of observation, documentation and interviews. The instruments used in this study were observation guidelines, interview guidelines. The results obtained from this study are the geometric concepts that exist in the historical building of the Maimun Palace, namely the concept of flat wake, wake up space and the concept of reflection transformation geometry. With ethnomathematics, the understanding of mathematical concepts about geometric objects can be seen in real terms so that students become more understanding and easy to understand.
