This study aimed to examine the effect of an audio-visual media-based learning model on the learning
outcomes and scientific literacy of fourth-grade students in the topic of energy in daily life. The study
was motivated by the relatively low achievement of students’ learning outcomes and scientific literacy,
which were still influenced by conventional teaching methods and limited use of instructional media
capable of visualizing abstract concepts. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design
using a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design was employed. The participants consisted of 26 fourthgrade
students of SD Negeri 040454 Peceren. The research instruments included a multiple-choice
learning outcomes test and a context-based scientific literacy test that had been validated prior to
implementation. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and paired sample t-test
at a significance level of 0.05. The results revealed that the mean score of learning outcomes
increased from 77.66 in the pretest to 82.66 in the posttest, with a t-value of 32.89 (p < 0.05).
Similarly, the mean score of scientific literacy improved from 70.15 to 77.54, with a t-value of 47.07
(p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the implementation of an audio-visual media-based learning
model significantly enhances both conceptual understanding and students’ ability to explain scientific
phenomena in real-life contexts. The integration of visual and auditory stimuli facilitates deeper
cognitive processing and supports meaningful learning experiences. Therefore, the audio-visual
media-based learning model can be considered an effective instructional strategy for improving
learning outcomes and strengthening scientific literacy in elementary science education, particularly
in teaching energy-related topics.
