Abstrak

This research aims to determine the effect of retelling the content of what has been read on the ability to understand reading in class V students at SD Negeri 064025 Medan Tuntungan for the 2023/2024 academic year. The research location is at SD Negeri 064025 Medan Tuntungan. The method used by researchers is the experimental method. And the instrument used by the researcher is an essay test, which looks at students' reading comprehension ability. Based on the research results, it can be seen that the ability to understand reading after the treatment of teaching to retell the contents of the story read accurately by making a summary of the story read in his own words received an average score of 86,8, including the very good category, while the group of students who did not retell the content of the reading obtained an average score of 75,2, including the sufficient category. And there is a significant influence by retelling the content of the reading by making a summary of the story read in his own words on the ability to understand the content of the reading using material from the legend of Ciung Wanara in class V of SD Negeri 064025 Medan Tuntungan Academic Year 2023/2024.
