Abstrak

This study seeks to evaluate the learning outcomes of students who engage with the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) cooperative learning model compared to those who use traditional learning methods. Specifically, it focuses on the impact of the NHT model on student performance in science subjects among third-grade students at SDN 060938 Medan during the 2024/2025 academic year. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest assessments, this research involved 48 students from SDN 060938 Medan. The sample included all third-grade students, with class III-A serving as the control group (24 students) and class III-B as the experimental group, also comprising 24 students. Data collection consisted of an essay test featuring five questions. Both classes underwent a pretest to assess their initial knowledge levels. The average pretest score for class III-A was 60. 21, whereas class III-B recorded an average of 45. 90. After implementing different instructional strategies, class III-B, which participated in the NHT cooperative model, achieved an average posttest score of 83. 33. In contrast, class III-A, which followed the conventional approach, attained an average score of 62. 14. The findings indicate that the average learning outcomes for students using the NHT model surpassed those of students engaged in traditional learning. A t-test analysis yielded a t-value of 7. 5, with degrees of freedom calculated as (14-1) = 13 for class III-A and (21-1) = 20 for class III-B. At a significance level of 0. 05, the critical t-table value is 2. 03. Since the calculated t-value exceeds the t-table value, the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This indicates that the implementation of the NHT cooperative learning model has a significant positive effect on the learning outcomes of third-grade students at SDN 060938 Medan during the 2024/2025 academic year.
